Monday, January 11, 2010 - I am headed to a wedding in Las Vegas where a couple of VROC {internet motorcycle club} members are getting hitched. Since it is the middle of Winter I decide to break the trip into two days. So that gives me the opportunity to try the Oxtail Stew at the Wool Growers in Bakersfield. Two of our illustrious Lunch Bunchers, Grandma and Elsa had stopped here twice both going to and returning from Las Vegas late last year. Since Elsa had ordered the Oxtail Stew on both occasions I figured that it must be good. I was not disappointed. It was delicious.

I actually took a photo of the next table even before I sat down. They had the full blown Basque Lunch.

The dining room seats 80, but looks smaller. There is a Banquet Hall in the back that seats 225 and a few patrons were eating in the back.
There is another small section to the right.

Side two of the lunch menu has the sandwiches and a la carte items

I ordered the Oxtail Stew a la carte which includes salad, bread and French fries.

The French fries and Oxtail Stew

Another patron had ordered the pickled tongue sandwich and he just ate the salad and half the sandwich and fries and was taking the rest with him.

Here is a rather dark photo of the right half of the Banquet Room. There were people eating at the tables to the left of this photo. There is also a second full bar in the Banquet Room.
I can highly recommend eating at the Wool Growers in Bakersfield, CA.
On the road out I had to give Elsa a call to tell her that I thought her assessment of the Oxtail Stew was on the money.
